24 "She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant."
she delivers sashes to the merchant."
Proverbs 31 is a chapter in the Bible describing "the virtuous woman". It is the inspired oracle to King Lemuel from his mother. The first 9 verses are teaching him about being a strong ruler and a good man, and then it shifts to talk about the kind of woman for which he should be looking. Surprisingly enough, much of that passage describes a woman who is constructive and productive. A woman who "works with willing hands" and "perceives that her merchandise is profitable".
It is a little section of Scripture depicting what a virtuous woman and an excellent wife looks like. As a Christian, that is what I aspire for. The last two verses of the chapter sum it up pretty well:
30 "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates."
I decided to take the name of my store from this beautiful Scripture, because of how important this Scripture is to women like me who are striving to be virtuous and excellent in God's sight.
I want to use the talents and passions that God has given me to make and create things.
I've always enjoyed arts and crafts. Working with my hands is both relaxing and rewarding. To me, there's nothing better than taking a pile of fabric and other components to make something aesthetic and useful. Not to mention the obvious parallel of what God does with our lives through His grace.
So after much persuasion from many close friends and family, I opened my online store to sell the things that I make. Product pictures and descriptions to come.
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out Sashes To Merchants!
